After a tree comes down, the stump is what's left — and it doesn't go away on its own. Lake Anna Tree Service grinds stumps flush with the ground or below grade so you can mow over the spot, plant grass, lay landscaping, or prep for construction without the stump getting in the way.

We grind to 6–12 inches below grade as standard, which is deep enough for lawn restoration and most landscaping. For driveways, building pads, or fence lines, we can go deeper. We also address surface roots that are cracking driveways, lifting walkways, or making mowing difficult.

The right grinding depth depends on what you plan to do with the spot afterward:

• Lawn restoration: 6–8 inches is sufficient. Remove chips, backfill with topsoil, seed, and water. Most grass establishes within 3–4 weeks.
• Landscaping or garden beds: 8–10 inches gives you room to plant without hitting wood chips. We can haul chips away so you start with clean soil.
• Driveway or construction prep: 12+ inches ensures no wood material interferes with compaction or base layers. Mention this when you call so we bring the right setup.

Wood chips left in the hole will decompose over 1–3 years. They won't harm grass or plants, but they do settle as they break down — so for high-traffic areas, we recommend removing chips and backfilling with topsoil.
